He is founder and editor of The London Gardener, journal of the London Historic Parks and Gardens Trust.

His book The London Town Garden 1700-1840 was published by Yale University Press in March 2001, and The Gardens and Parks at Hampton Court Palace was published by Frances Lincoln (London) in June 2005.
