The garden, which forms a picturesque foil for Gumuchdjian Architects’ striking new extension to St Marylebone Church of England School, is a subtle recasting of an earlier scheme commissioned in 1951 by the St Marylebone Society from the architect Louis de Soissons. The centrepiece of the new scheme is a c19th stone obelisk-shaped monument dedicated to Charles Wesley (d.1788), a prodigious writer of hymns, and a leading figure in the Methodist movement.
